Read all of it before commenting!

Hello!

So, are you a competitive player or a casual player? I, myself, is pretty competitive. But of course I play solely for fun from time to time. But for the most part I am, like I said, competitive. But why? I mean, it's just a game you play for fun, right? Well, losing isn't very fun, is it? You probably think I'm very sad for saying that, but to me it's true. But it's more than just "I play competitively 'cause it's fun to win", I also play competitively because I enjoy a good challenge, and the meta provides that. I actually enjoy playing around the massive established boards of Qliphort's. And I love when I somehow outgrind Burning Abyss, even though they opened really, really good. However, you don't need to play a meta deck to be competitive, just look at me, I maindeck X-Sabers. From time to time I do use stuff like Nekroz, Burning Abyss and Qliphort's, because I wanna keep up with meta, so I know what to expect and what to put in my side and main deck when I enter the Duelist Pool (rated) on DN. But for the most part I use my trusty X-Sabers, and adapt that deck to the meta instead of having myself adapt to it by playing cookie-cutter decks.

I would put myself Under Semi-competitive..
This is because, I play decks like, Yosenju, U.a. For comp. and match if now beat out other "Meta" Decks... I got to all the regional I can... (Next week is my next one)
But I do play for fun also... Venom Smile Snakes yeahh yeahh!
I run 2 "Tournaments" at the library 2 times a week (Monday, and Thursday...)
I go to 1 Locals A week IF NOT 2.. (Jackson And Ypsi)
Meh, Call me comp. or not.. I have fun XD

People seem to confuse "competitive" with "meta". While the meta may be the best deck(s) of the format, a deck does not have to be meta to be competitive. While the most likely to win would be a meta deck, as seen in some YCS and notionals results, anti-meta decks can just as likely win, due to their influence on most their matches. For example, I consider myself very competitive, but I main Spellbook/Prophecy, Plant Synchro, and Fableds. Of course, I'll fuck around sometimes, but that's usually only with friends.

tl;dr - Meta=/=Competitive.

When i play its usually casual and I play different dumb decks ive build just to see if they work. But i do still play competitely. I dont see the meta decks as much fun so i avoid those but i still play deck i feel still are competeative and compete with the meta decks. Right now i play six sams compettiavly and my w-l rate with meta decks isn't too bad. Lots of decks have chance to survive in the competitive scene but people usually turn to the more cookie-cutter meta decks out there. Thats fine but i just see it more my style to use tier 2/3 and adjust them to well counter the meta.

I agree with Pantsu, I'm always playing weird ass decks no matter the format or meta.
I've yet to play meta competitive cause I like the challenge.
Ruler format = Inzektors and Hazy kings
This format = Scraps and what ever I feel like

So yeah you don't need to play competitive to have fun also you don't need to play meta to have fun in competitive. Lastly like I always say to my opponents: Good luck n remember to have fun. We're playing a childrens card game! A game! So we should have fun, aren't games about having fun?

I'm also pretty similar that I like to play different low-tier decks in different format. Still keeps it fresh somehow. Very Happy
